Transferring files from a local computer to a server in the cloud can be done quickly and easily using a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client like FileZilla.  This solution is cross-platform supporting FTP, FTPS and SFTP all with an intuitive graphical user interface.  FileZilla uses a file browser like you are accustom to in Windows, and has drag-n-drop functionality for speedy file and folder transfers back and forth.

Windows doesn’t provide you an interface for managing all your fonts and this is where a great piece of free software comes into play called Font Xplorer.  This application allows you to find, manage and print installed and non-installed fonts on your computer system.  It will also let you search and identify duplicate fonts from the dozens or hundreds of fonts already installed so you can delete them.

Some basic features of Font Xplorer are:

• Print predesigned professional sample sheets of your fonts.
• Save bitmap images of your fonts.
• Find the perfect font to use with an easy compare viewer.
• Zoom feature allows you to get a closer look at the characters.
• Rename the font files so they are easily identifiable.

What I like most about Font Xplorer is that you have an in-depth look at all the fonts installed on your Windows PC.  Scroll through them and delete the ones you know you will never use to save space and system resources.

Microsoft’s free SyncToy utility is absolutely fabulous for making backups of critical files with ease.  This application can also manage multiple sets of folders at the same time to give you a wide range of options.  SyncToy will effectively synchronize your folders with a second copy in another location, for example an external hard drive, backup drive, thumb drive and optical media like CD’s and DVD’s.

Some standard features of SyncToy are:

• Copy, delete, move, rename files between folders and computers.
• Easy synchronization of folders and directories.
• Files renamed will carry over to the synchronized folders.
• Exclude files by exact name or fuzzy matching.
